Carroll Rec Center Getting New Look And New Events

Construction crews continue to work on updates at the Carroll Rec Center, and Recreation Superintendent, McKenzie Kiger says everyone is excited to see the changes when the job is finished in late May or early June. The weight room is a little cramped right now, she said, but when they get done adding space by utilizing one of the racquetball courts and they expand the mezzanine level, there will be plenty of room to spread out the member’s workouts. In addition to those changes, she said they are addressing a safety issue by adding a larger door between the weight room and gym that allows access to an additional emergency exit. They are also working to add more storage.

Over 800 kids are signed up for the soccer program, Kiger said, and 500 to 600 in t-ball, for which the Rec Center supplies all the equipment. Kiger joined the Carroll Rec Center early last October, and said the first year for her is really about learning. She wants to go through a whole cycle of all the programming to really get a good grasp on the operation and the community needs. She and the staff, however, have already had a lot of good ideas for new events and activities.

Kiger’s main goals are to stay in tune with the community and to get word out about all the different amenities they have to offer.

She added they have already heard a lot of great ideas from the community members the only down side is it takes time to get them implemented. Kiger encourages families to check out the affordable rates, and reminds them that scholarships are available for those who need assistance. The Carroll City Council is exploring options for pool and locker room updates and relocation of the offices and check-in counter as part of their long-term master plan.
