Carroll Police Department’s Newest Officer Calls Carroll Area Home

Officer Tony Konkler’s retirement became effective at 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, and Carroll’s newest Police Officer has only been on the job for a couple of hours on this Tuesday morning, but he is already busy preparing for his new career here in Carroll. Nathan Christian lived the majority of his life in Glidden and says there were two major influences on his desire to pursue a career in law enforcement. He said his first experience was as a freshman in high school when a senior, Nick Hinkle, who is now an Iowa State Patrol Officer in the Audubon area, took him under his wing. A similar experience in college reinforced his desire to become an officer.

Christian graduated in May of 2015, but has been waiting for this opening to be able to work exactly where he wants to be.

Christian’s training begins immediately as he will begin riding with other officers yet this week, and in mid-April will spend about 14 weeks at the law enforcement training academy in Des Moines. He has taken to heart the advice he has been given about having to separate his personal life and his work life and treat everyone fairly and equitably. He is looking forward to learning more and getting to work on keeping the Carroll community safe. And though he is brand new to the job, Christian’s taking a long view down the road.

This area, he says, is where he has called home since he was one year old, and this is where he wants his children and grandchildren raised.
