Carroll High School Starting Year With New Program For Teachers

The countdown to the first day of school has begun and the Carroll Community School District will be holding their final board of director’s meeting of the summer break Tuesday, Aug. 16, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Adams Elementary School board conference room. In addition to reviewing the preschool agreement with the Kuemper Catholic School System and approving administrative appointments, the board will be discussing some important dates for Carroll High School. Principal, Tammie McKenzie, says this year will mark the first ever Carroll High School Employee Educator Day following a Chamber coffee on Friday morning, Aug. 19. Following the coffee at 8:30 a.m., the staff will move to the media center where a presentation on 21st Century skills will be given by Jeff Kluever from the Robert D and Billie Ray Center. They will then divide into three groups and board buses to visit one of three local businesses: Scranton Manufacturing; St. Anthony Regional Hospital; or United Bank of Iowa. The outing will conclude with a tour of Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). The first day of school for the Carroll Community School District is Wednesday, Aug. 24, and the high school will begin that day with a general assembly in the gymnasium at 8:15 a.m. Incoming freshmen, however, will participate in orientation prior to the first day on Monday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m., when they will run through an abbreviated school day. A freshmen parents’ meeting will be held later that afternoon, from 5 to 5:30 p.m.
