Carroll County Employees To See Increase In Health Insurance Rates

Supervisor Mark Beardmore presented information to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning regarding a recent meeting of the health insurance committee. He said the recommendation of the committee was to make an increase to employee health insurance rates at this time and review again before the end of the year.

Beardmore did offer a word of caution about future changes to the rate.

This is a way, he added, to buy themselves some time to see what claim experience does. Chair Neil Bock brought up discussion of the balance in the insurance fund, which at the end of April was at $1,187,000. Bock discussed the recent highs and lows in the fund and wanted to make sure there were no major claims on the radar that may impact that balance. Currently, there are none, but Bock said he would like to see a prediction of what may be coming when the issue is reviewed at the end of the year. The insurance committee requested that a flyer be included in employee paychecks, and Bock asked that there be full transparency in that notice.

The Supervisors approved the motion to increase county employee health insurance rates four percent by a unanimous vote.
