Carroll County Board Of Supervisors Looking To Save Money By Changing Lightbulbs

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors is seeking to cut their lighting bills by a significant margin by changing the way the courthouse gets its light. They received a presentation and bid from Yellowblue Ecotech during Tuesday morning’s meeting about the savings a switch to LED bulbs could make. Supervisor Marty Danzer says the current bulbs in the courthouse are less energy efficient.

LED bulbs are nearly twice as efficient as their counterparts and could reduce the courthouse’s power bill by half. The newer lights do have a higher up-front cost, though.

The value of the rebate from MidAmerican Energy is still uncertain, but it will help cut the initial cost of a switch. A secondary effect of the change is a more environmentally-friendly building. The board has not taken any action on changing lights and are waiting to receive another bid before taking it to a vote.
