Boone Mans Record-Setting Route Ran Through Carroll Saturday

Boone native, Peter Kostelnick, was running at a speed of about six and a quarter miles per hour at around 12:20 p.m. as he traveled through Carroll Saturday in his attempt to set a new record for the fastest time in running across the United States. The original record, set in 1980 by Frank Giannino, Jr., logged a time from San Francisco to New York in 46 days, eight hours and 36 minutes. Kostelnick began his journey from San Francisco last month, leaving the city on Monday, Sept 12, and has mapped his course for an arrival in New York on Wednesday, October 26. At the conclusion of this race, Kostelnick will have run 3,100 miles in 44 days. His route took him through Jefferson and Carroll on Highway 30, through his hometown of Boone and on to just east of Toledo, where he was tracked this morning.
