Blowout Sends Four To Hospital

Four people were sent to local hospitals after a two-vehicle accident on Highway 30 west of Jefferson at approximately 11:59 a.m. yesterday (Wednesday). A 2002 Ford F250, driven by 72-year-old Donald Egan of Scranton, was eastbound on Highway 30 when he suffered a tire blowout on the front driver’s side. This caused his vehicle to swerve into the path of a 2016 Ford Escape, driven by 52-year-old Debra Thompson of Alden. Thompson attempted to avoid the collision by veering into the north lane, but the vehicles collided head on at the north shoulder of the road. Egan, Thompson and one passenger in the Thompson vehicle, 62-year-old Donald Skinner, Jr. of Ames were all transported to Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson by Greene County Medical Emergency Services. A second passenger in Thompson’s vehicle, 40-year-old Doug Lake of Ames, was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson Fire and Rescue assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
