This coming Tuesday, Aug. 16, several dozen supporters of the Bakken Pipeline Resistance Coalition, including members of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, will be holding a press conference and rally. They will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) office in Des Moines to deliver demands that the IUB begin responding to landowner complaints related to violations by the largely out-of-state construction crews building the Bakken pipeline. This rally is the result of growing concerns from Iowa landowners and pipeline construction watchdogs that say the IUB rushed approval of the project in spite of overwhelming public objections. The groups are concerned with eminent domain issues as well as the possibility of irreparable environmental harm.
