Audubon School Districts Preparing For Return Of Students

The start of classes is rapidly approaching for students in the Audubon School District and the schools have done much to prepare for their return. A big change to the district is the upgrades to the Audubon Softball Complex. New lights, infield renovations, dugout changes and new fencing are all improvements being brought to the softball field. These changes began once the softball season concluded and are still ongoing. Security improvements are also a major addition to the Audubon facilities says Audubon Superintendent, Brett Gibbs.

New security cameras were installed in some areas of the school to provide more coverage, and these needed security upgrades did come at a cost of $62,000. Audubon schools will welcome two instructors to the district this year. Andrea Bruning, a recent Iowa State graduate, will be the new kindergarten teacher, and Stephanie Graham will be joining the middle school as an English instructor. In-person registration for classes will be Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the school building, but Superintendent Gibbs does say there is another option.

Teachers will officially return for professional development on Aug. 17 and 18. On Aug. 19, the Red and White Scrimmage will be held at the sports complex with gates to open at 5:30 p.m. and the game starting at 7 p.m. One major change for the Audubon School District this year is the sharing of Superintendent Gibbs’ services with the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District. He says this is a result of budget cuts and will be his first experience dividing time with districts. Gibbs explains how he sees this shared time working out.

Gibbs has involved in education for 18 years, and this will be the start of his tenth year at Audubon. He says he looks forward to the start of every school year.

Class official begin for the Audubon School District on Aug. 23 and will be a full school day.
