Audubon Co. Sheriff welcomes new K-9 officer to the force

The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office is officially introducing a new team member this week, Axel, a nearly one and a half year old Belgian Malinois. Axel and handler, Deputy Nathan Tibbets have been working together and training since the Sheriff’s Department purchased the new K-9 officer in November of last year. On March 17, Sheriff Todd Johnson, Deputy Tibbets and Axel accepted a $1,000 donation from the Exira Lions Club to be used to cover some of the expenses involved with Axel and Tibbets’ training. Axel has been extensively trained in narcotic detection and handler protection and will be trained for evidence recovery and tracking in the future. The newest member of the force has already been deployed for several narcotic searches and will be available for use by the law enforcement officers when they are in need of his assistance.
