Anne Holton, Wife Of Vice-Presidential Candidate Kaine, Speaks In Carroll One Week Before The General Election

Only seven days remain before Election Day, and Anne Holton, wife of Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Kaine, visited Carroll on Tuesday afternoon to campaign for her husband’s ticket. Holton addressed a crowd of supporters and stressed that the election race is tighter than polls make it seem.

Issues affecting women were the top concern in her address to supporters. She noted the United States only has 19.4 percent of the congressional seats occupied by women, which ranks 97th in the world according to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Holton says it is time for a woman president and is certain of a Clinton victory.

Holton is the daughter of former Republican Governor of Virginia, Linwood Holton, Jr., and served as the Secretary of Education of Virginia from 2014 to 2016 before resigning to assist her husband on the campaign trail. Later in the day, she continued her visit to Iowa with stops in Boone and Des Moines. She is scheduled to speak in Fort Dodge on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m.
