Veteran Benefits Expanded

Louie Grote, Director of Carroll County Veterans Affairs, said there has been a recent change to the medical coverage offered to vets. He said those who served in southwest Asia, not Vietnam, but the Kuwait and Iraq area, are now an automatic entry in the VA healthcare system.

He added that other veterans who are automatically entered into the system include prisoners of war, Purple Heart recipients and those who have been exposed to Agent Orange. He was pleased to announce that there has also been a change announced to reporting required for benefits.

Now this will be based solely on yearly income and should open the door for some veterans who haven’t been able to get into the system in the past. For more information on these benefits, contact the Carroll County Veterans Affairs at 792-1234.
