Two People Transported To Hospital After Exira Collision

Two people were transported to the Audubon County Memorial Hospital by Exira Rescue after a two-vehicle accident in Exira on Monday, Sept. 21. At approximately 11:30 a.m., 92-year-old Cynthia Ann Petersen of Exira was traveling eastbound on Littlefield Drive in a 1990 Buick and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 71. Fifty-year-old Tommy Anthony Sherlock of North Augusta, South Carolina was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on 71, when Petersen pulled onto the highway in front of the Sherlock vehicle, striking it behind the driver’s side door. The Sherlock vehicle continued north, sliding around and knocking over a highway sign post before coming to rest in a ditch area. Damage to the Petersen vehicle is estimated at $4,000 and damage to the Sherlock vehicle at $25,000. Petersen has been charged with Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Highway.
