A post-accident fire completed the estimated $10,000 in damages to a 2001 Ford Ranger driven by 56-year-old Charles Lynn Sporrer of Manning. At approximately 8:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Carroll County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene on 300th Street, two miles west of Birch Ave., just north of Manning. Sporrer was westbound on 300th Street when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the south ditch. He struck a farm field fence, causing damage along several feet. He drove westbound in the ditch and again made contact with the fence, creating more damage to it and his vehicle. The truck got hung up between the embankment and fence, and it appears that Sporrer spun the tires until they caught fire, burning the vehicle at that location. Sporrer was transported to Manning Regional Healthcare Center by Carroll County Ambulance Service. He was cited for Driving While Suspended and Failure to Maintain Control. There was an estimated $500 in damage to the fence. The Manning Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
