One person airlifted to the hospital following report of domestic dispute in Odebolt

One person was transported by medical helicopter over the weekend following a reported domestic dispute to the Sac County Sheriff’s Office. Events began around 11:22 pm on Saturday night, September 26, when the sheriff’s office was called to 601 West 2nd Street in Odebolt. While deputies from the Sac County Sheriff’s Office were in route the call was upgraded, with shots fired with one person reported shot. Upon arrival deputies found 29 year-old Mitchell Lee Sorensen lying on the kitchen floor inside the home with a shot-gun wound to his upper leg area. A helicopter was then called from Sioux City where it landed at a secured zone at the Odebolt football field transporting Sorensen to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Following an investigation deputies determined that Sorensen had possibly been angered by a recent break-up. He then allegedly kicked in the side door of his parents’ home, damaged some items, and then grabbed a shot-gun out of the gun cabinet, when he then loaded the weapon, and went outside discharging one round into the air. When Sorensen came back inside he shot himself in the leg. Sorensen’s condition was unknown when the official report was filed; criminal charges are pending following a further investigation by the Sac County Sheriff’s Office and the Sac County Attorney’s Office.

The Ida County Sheriff’s Office, the Lake View Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Odebolt Fire Department, and ambulances from Lake View and Sac City assisted at the scene.
