November Is National Caregiver Month

With long-term care costs for an individual estimated at $50,000 to $60,000 per year, caregiver assistance in the home is on the rise. Many times, these caregivers don’t recognize themselves in that category; they merely do it as a way to help out a parent, loved one, friend or neighbor. November is National Family Caregiver Month, and a time to recognize these individuals who make sure that their friends and family have the highest quality of life possible. You could be considered a caregiver if you are checking in on loved ones, providing transportation, assisting with daily tasks such as paying bills, setting up medications, running errands, planning and preparing meals and assisting with bathing and dressing. The Elderbridge Agency on Aging offers a special program to family caregivers to provide them the emotional support, access to information and community resources along with long-term planning for themselves and the care recipients. They have caregiver specialists ready to listen and assist you in your role as the caregiver.
