Interview with CCSD candidate Jon Sampson

With two sons who attend the Carroll Community School District, school board candidate Jon Sampson says he sees what’s going on in their lives and as a parent he knows firsthand about problems which might arise. In order to tackle those issues, he says, having experience on a board of any type is helpful, but he doesn’t necessarily believe that a lack of experience hinders a person either.

He elaborated by saying Bengston provides financially sound advice and would be someone to lean on and learn from. Sampson adds that volunteering as an elder, a youth leader, and a children’s teacher at his church also provide him with leadership skills.

A lack of funding provided by the state is a big concern for Sampson who says working to pass the ISL last year opened his eyes to how school finances are divided up and what working on the board would really be like.

Even with budget constraints Sampson says there’s one big project the district needs to tackle.

After living in Carroll for about 19 years and having a vested interest in the district’s activities through his children Sampson says he’s ready to begin taking on an active role in making decisions instead of just trusting to an already instated board. We’ll bring you more from the candidates up through Election Day, Tuesday, September 8.
