Former Kuemper Catholic Schools President, Vern Henkenius, has only just begun his retirement effective July 1, and is already being recognized for his achievements in his 50 years in education; most notably the 16 years he spent with Kuemper. Henkenius has been selected as the recipient of the Good Shepherd Award from the Diocese of Sioux City. The award is presented to a school employee who is admired, respected and held in high regard by fellow peers, students and parents. These individuals routinely go above-and-beyond and enthusiastically promote the mission of the school. Henkenius will receive the award in a special presentation during the 19th Annual Bishop’s Dinner on Oct. 11 in Sioux City. Henkenius has seen the classroom and the administrative side of Kuemper during his career, working as a social studies teacher and coach from 1965 to 1974, then returning to Kuemper as president from 2009 to 2015.
