Grassley Voices Disappointment Over EPA Renewable Fuel Volumes

With yesterday’s (Monday) announcement that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) volume obligations for the Federal Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) will only see a modest increase for 2015 and 2016, not up to the promised 15 billion gallons, United States Senator Chuck Grassley says that he is disappointed in the decision. He said their final rule to offer only the slight improvement of just over 14 billion gallons for 2015 and 14.5 billion gallons for 2016 shows the EPA does not appreciate that the farmers and biofuels producers can generate enough renewable fuels to meet the goals that had been set by Congress. According to Grassley, the EPAs approach was flawed and seemed to buy into the Big Oil rhetoric. The decision is expected to set back the development and undermine the efforts to commercialize the next generation of biofuels. Grassley added that it is unfortunate that this administration, which claims to be for renewable and clean energy, would stand in the way of the production and use of more renewable fuels.
