First Transitional Housing For Veterans In Iowa

One of the great injustices in our nation is the lack of resources for veterans, active service members and their immediate families; especially those who are facing significant challenges as they adjust to life in the civilian world. In Iowa, until recently, this kind of assistance has been nearly nonexistent. HUD-VASH has been ill-equipped to handle the numbers of homeless veterans and other organizations mix them with other homeless populations in facilities that lack the tools or staff to meet the very specific needs of veterans. Rally Point Cedar Valley Veterans is a non-profit that is working to provide safe, transitional housing for active duty service members, veterans and their family members. They operate LZ Phoenix, Iowa’s only transitional shelter that caters specifically to members of the armed forces through a rehousing process. They are announcing an official ribbon cutting for their launch on Oct. 17, at 11:00 a.m. in Waverly. Neal Jarnagin, executive director of Rally Point Cedar Valley Veterans, says we know how great the need is for the work we are doing, and it is very clear it can save people’s lives. After people have served their country, it’s important they receive the help they need to get their lives back in order in a caring and positive way.
