Council Candidate Curtis Has Experience To Lead Through Tough Issues

With city council member Dr. Eric Jensen running for the mayor position in the upcoming November election, two candidates have come forward to compete for the At-Large seat he leaves open. Mike Curtis, who came to the Carroll community 17 years ago with his wife Tina, said he has been asked several times to throw his hat in the ring in the past, but the timing just hadn’t been right until now. As a former banker and current regional seed manager for Crop Production Services, he says his work has given him the experience he needs in working with people, in problem solving, strategic planning and management of a $170 million budget. He hopes the people of Carroll will see that as added value, but he also wants them to know he has experience in city management and in handling of the tough issues.

In addition to being able to think outside of the box, Curtis says he has dealt with citizens on issues that divide communities, much like the library controversy Carroll has been dealing with for the past decade or so. There is definitely a need for research he said, but there is also the need for action. His philosophy is to evaluate what is necessary and what is nice and prioritize from there.

As a council member, Curtis believes it is their role to ensure that all funding avenues are researched and utilized and that economic development is tied to the right plan at the right time to bring people to Carroll and to keep them here. He added, the fact that he, his wife and their two kids, Cade and Taya, have made Carroll their new home is a benefit when it comes to his ability to maintain a neutral position and viewpoint on issues.

He also said he believes that even though the previous and current city leadership has had some difficulty with moving projects through in a timely fashion, they have done a tremendous job in reducing the debt load for Carroll. Curtis added the one thing he would like all voters to know is that he is open and willing to have a discussion with anyone and he does not offend easily. However, he asks that you keep in mind he will have opinions and thoughts as well.
