CCSD hears from new Instructional Coaches in 1st year of TLC program

At the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year Carroll Community School’s Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) program began in earnest. As part of the state sponsored program four experienced teachers from within the district were moved from the classroom into new roles in order to mentor fellow teachers. High School Instructional Coach Angie Emerick says that on the first day of school she and her fellow coaches didn’t know what to expect, but things soon got busy.

Elementary Coach Kim Shields says teachers’ enthusiasm to bring the TLC coaches into the classrooms is slowly building as they build trust with the teachers.

Ann Kluver, the Instructional Coach at the Middle School, says networking with administrators, lead teams, and model teachers has had the added benefit of building bridges between schools.

Technology Instructional Coach Kelli Schulz, who advises teacher in technology integration throughout all buildings, says she’s excited to spend even more time inside the classroom.

All four coaches admit that they were wary when they first took on the job as an Instructional Coach at their respective buildings, but now they all see the advantages of the TLC program. The group discussed in depth even more activities and plans for the TLC program with members of the Carroll Community School Board at their most recent meeting. The full discussion can be found below.
