Carroll E-cycling Event takes place Saturday; volunteers needed

Curbside recycling can be found in many communities throughout Carroll County, but it can be difficult to find ways to safely dispose of electronic waste. That’s why the Carroll County Solid Waste Management Commission and Pella Corporation teamed up last year for the first E-cycling event in Carroll according to commission member Mary Wittry.

Last year’s event saw 471 vehicles bring in around 60 tons of electronic waste, and Wittry expects to see a similar turn out this year. In order to get all the computers systems, televisions, stereos, printers, fax machines, video game systems, and other e-waste into the trucks they’re searching for volunteers to help out this Saturday morning, September 19.

The event will open to the public at 7:30 am and run until 10:30 am or until the trucks are full. There’s no charge for the service, but Wittry says donations are being accepted for the Carroll Food Pantry.

The E-cycling event is open to Carroll County residents who will need to bring their qualifying electronic items to the Southwest Loading area at Pella Corporation in Carroll. No appliances will be accepted. To volunteer for the event or for more information call Wittry at 712-792-5001.
