Carroll Community Theatre’s annual haunting event moves outdoors to The Scream Forest

A spook-tacular tradition arranged by the Carroll Community Theatre has headed outdoors this year as organizers get set to scare the pants off of willing participants who dare to enter The Scream Forest. Organizer Laura Comito says this year the annual haunted house has made the move outdoors and that proved to be a challenge thinking up spooky situations which didn’t rely on electricity. However, Mother Nature was more than willing to take a leading role.

Without giving too much away The Scream Forest will haunt parts of the bike and bridle trail at Swan Lake State Park this year. Participants will start their adventure at the East Shelter House, heading down a well-marked path, and, for the first time, they can bring along a small flashlight.

Participants will need to dress appropriately for weather conditions when walking the little over a mile route which took about 150 behind the scenes volunteers to set-up. During the event Comito says people will be stationed along the path in order to make sure participants remain safe. However, she does have a warning for people with medical conditions.

She says if the haunted route were a movie it would receive a PG-13 rating so it is not recommended for young children. So if you’re still spirited enough to enter the forest it opens at 7:00 pm with haunting ending at 10:00 pm, rain or shine, this Friday, October 23 & Saturday, 24. It will reopen the following weekend, October 30 & 31, for second showing. Tickets are $10.00 per person with proceeds benefiting future Community Theatre stage productions. They are still seeking volunteers to work as safety personal at The Scream Forest. If interested call Molly at 712-830-5238 to help. The Carroll Community Theatre is working in conjunction with the Carroll County Conservation Board in order to produce the outdoor attraction.
