Boone County Supervisors oppose proposed Bakken Pipeline

The Boone County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution which opposes the Bakken oil pipeline on Thursday. Supervisor Chet Hollingshead explains why.

The Board also felt the $250,000 surety bond which would be used to deal with spills was inadequate and that Boone County does not have the resources or personnel to deal with a pipeline spill. Hollingshead adds that imminent domain is a tool that dates back to the days when railroads passed through farmland.

Dakota Access L-L-C a subsidiary of the Dallas, Texas Corporation Energy Transfer Partners L.P. is the private entity wanting to build the pipeline which would transport oil from northern North Dakota to the southern part of Illinois. The 1.134 mile long route would cross through Iowa and South Dakota and impacts local counties including Calhoun, Sac, Webster, and Boone.
