A young man from Breda placed in the top five in the national pedal tractor pull contest last weekend. Nine-year-old Jaxon Nieland took fourth place in the boys’ category for his age in the 2026 National Pedal Pull Championships, hosted by the National Pedal Pullers Association at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D., on Sept. 26. Children compete in age- or weight-based classes on small pedal tractors that tow a weighted sled down a short, marked lane, and the sled becomes harder to pull as its weight shifts forward. Each child pedals without outside help and must stay within the lane. A “full pull” reaches the end of the track, and if a competitor falls short, officials measure the distance, and the farthest pull in each class wins. To qualify for nationals, Nieland won the Iowa Pedal Pull Championships hosted in Burt on Sept. 12.
