A recent survey from the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) shows Iowa’s business leaders expect steady conditions heading into the fourth quarter, but hiring difficulties remain their most common concern.
The survey found that 47 percent of respondents expect sales to grow next quarter, while 53 percent expect sales to remain about the same. Sixty-three percent plan on some form of capital spending, including 20 percent who expect to make modest investments.
Workforce and talent was a top challenge for 74 percent of respondents, followed by health care costs at 58 percent. When asked what the next governor should prioritize to strengthen Iowa’s business climate, respondents most often cited workforce issues.
ABI President Nicole Crain says, “Iowa employers remain confident in their businesses, with many planning to invest in the coming quarter. At the same time, workforce and talent remain significant challenges for employers across the state. ABI, through the initiatives of our Foundation, remains committed to educating Iowa students about the opportunities that exist in their communities.”
ABI surveys its board of directors each quarter to gauge business sentiment and help guide its advocacy and programs. The results reflect the views of those surveyed and are not a statewide poll of all Iowa employers. Previous survey results are available at www.iowaabi.org.
