A Greene County woman is the Iowa Lottery’s latest winner from the listening area after claiming a $30,000 prize from a scratch game ticket.
Brenda Kennedy of Grand Junction collected her winnings Monday at the lotto’s main office in Clive.
Kennedy bought the $3 “$30,000 Crossword” ticket at the Casey’s in Gowrie, not knowing it was a winner until she scratched it at a friend’s home.
The game determines the prize amount based on how many words you complete in a puzzle, with more words leading to larger pots.
Kennedy says, “I said, ‘I’ve got seven words — $100! Nope, I’ve got eight words, $300! I said, ‘Nope! $3,000!’ And I’m like, ‘Nope! $30,000!’”
Kennedy says she plans to purchase a new vehicle with her winnings.
She is still deciding whether that will be a car or truck but jokes that it will definitely be a Chevrolet.
The “30,000 Crossword” game offers 151 top prizes of $30,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.52, according to the lottery.
