Shirley Ann (Beckman) (Dopheide) Eischeid, 85, of Carroll, died on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Addington Place of Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2026, 2026 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch. Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Jake Gute. Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Treyvor Umbarger and Katie Tanner. Gift Bearers will be Lauren Hulsing and Jill Foley. Eucharistic Ministers will be Dale Eischeid and Chris Dopheide. Casket Bearers will be Mark Eischeid, Tony Steffes, Alex Eischeid, Brandon Broich, Kyle Dopheide, T.J. Dopheide, Nic Jensen, Cory Dopheide, Daniel Umbarger, and Zak Hulsing. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the Funeral Mass. Burial will be in Carroll City Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Holy Spirit Church in Carroll with a Rosary at 7 p.m. by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Additional visitation will be from 9:00-9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the Mass.

Shirley was born on February 20, 1941 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of G.L. (Butch) and Alvina (Tigges) Beckman. After WWII the family moved to Manning, IA. She was the first born of four children and graduated from Manning High school. She worked mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, and at the local creamery. She married Larry Dopheide from Templeton on February 27, 1960. They had 5 children. On October 2, 1964 Larry was involved in a tragic farm trucking accident and passed away.
In 1966 she married Fred Eischeid who had 4 children and also lost his wife in 1964. One child came from their union in 1971. They raised their family of 10 on a farm outside of Halbur until Fred retired in 1983 and they moved to Carroll. Shirley worked at Fairview schools, was a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a volunteer for St. Anthony Auxiliary, and sewed with Rugs for Church. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, traveling, sewing, quilting, doing crafts, watching sports and most of all spending as much time as possible with family. Shirley loved Christmas and worked all year to make handmade gifts for every family member. Nothing brought her more joy than seeing her children and grandchildren. She went to church every Sunday and prayed the rosary faithfully. Her life was spent working to take care of those she loved and serving others, especially her family.
She is survived by 9 of her children: Dale (Mary Jane) Eischeid of Carroll, Shari Steffes of Carroll, Lucy (Rick) Broich of Roselle, Randy (Karen) Dopheide of Arcadia, Rick (Jane) Dopheide of Halbur, Sharyl Jensen of Mitchellville, Chris (Diane) Dopheide of Templeton, Sandy (Tim) Umbarger of Fairfax, MO and Tammy (Brian) Hulsing of Roselle. Brothers Gene (Marlene) Beckman and John (Sharon) Beckman of Arizona. 29 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands: Larry Dopheide and Fred Eischeid, parents G.L. (Butch) and Alvina Beckman, sister Lois Beckman, son Randy Eischeid, daughter in law Joan (Riesenberg) Eischeid and 2 great grandchildren: Jasper and Vera Dopheide.
