A Sac City man has been charged with kidnapping in connection with a June 30 incident. According to a press release from the Sac City Police Department on Tuesday, 32-year-old Paul Bainbridge was charged with first-degree kidnapping, a class A felony, on July 24.
This follows six initial charges placed against Bainbridge on July 1. Upon his arrest, the Sac City man was charged with child endangerment, first-degree harassment, and domestic abuse assault while displaying or using a dangerous weapon, each of which is an aggravated misdemeanor.
Bainbridge was also initially charged with obstruction of emergency communications, which is a simple misdemeanor. Later that day on July 1, Bainbridge was additionally charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony, and willful injury causing bodily injury, a class D felony.
In Iowa, a class A felony is punishable by a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. For his other charges, Bainbridge faces a class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine ranging from $1,370 to $13,660; a class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine ranging from $1,025 to $10,245; multiple aggravated misdemeanors each punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine ranging from $855 to $8,540; and a simple misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a fine ranging from $105 to $855.
The Sac City Police Department, Sac County Sheriff’s Office, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the call. The investigation is ongoing.
