FCA US LLC issued a “park outside” warning for owners of more than one million Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles after a recall was issued over a substantial fire risk. The company, which is also known as Stellantis North America, recalled nearly 1.1 million model-year 2021 through 2025 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles due to a potential electrical connection issue in the hydraulic power steering pump wiring. The defect could cause nearby combustible materials to overheat and ignite, even when the vehicle is turned off. The recall follows an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that was launched after multiple reports of vehicle fires. According to NHTSA, 51 fires and one injury are believed to be linked to the issue. Owners are advised to park affected vehicles outdoors, away from other vehicles or structures, until repairs are completed. The company has indicated that a remedy is being actively developed, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 9. Beginning tomorrow (Thursday), June 11, vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and license plates can be checked through NHTSA’s recall database.
