Iowa Fuel Report: May 6, 2026

Gas prices in Iowa soared over the four-dollar mark in this week’s fuel report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, May 6, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $4.23, up 39 cents from last week and $1.30 higher than a year ago. The national average for gasoline on Wednesday jumped 31 cents to $4.54 per gallon. It was a similar tale in Iowa’s retail diesel market, as the statewide average rose 46 cents to $5.40 per gallon, more than two dollars per gallon higher than prices from last year. Iowa prices still trended 27 cents below the national market. At the Des Moines Terminal, E10 was priced at $3.22, Unleaded 87 stood at $3.67, ULSD #2 was $4.25, ULSD #1 was $4.40, and E70 was $2.58. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were up seven cents to $2.72 per MMBtu.
