Despite a temporary pause to the conflict with Iran in the Middle East, fuel prices continued their upward trajectory in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, April 8, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state was $3.64, up 21 cents on the week and 56 cents above prices from a year ago. The national average for gasoline on Wednesday was up 10 cents to $4.16 per gallon. As for Iowa retail diesel, the statewide average rose 25 cents to $5.10 per gallon, compared to $3.39 per gallon this time last year. The national average was 57 cents higher than Iowa’s at $5.67 per gallon. At the Des Moines Terminal, E10 was $2.81, Unleaded 87 was $3.23, ULSD#2 was $4.37, ULSD#1 was $4.45, and E70 was $2.41. As for heating fuels, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were down nine cents to $2.74 per MMBtu. With the advent of warmer weather, IDALS will pause heating oil and propane price tracking through October.
