For the next month or so, crews from the City of Carroll will be flushing rust and other debris from water mains. Crews got to work on the exhaustive process yesterday (Monday), which involved opening each of the city’s 500 or so fire hydrants. This results in a high rate of water flow in the mains, which removes any rust from the interior walls before it reaches consumers’ taps. Crews will work on flushing between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. during the week, opening approximately 25 fire hydrants per day. There is a possibility that some rusty water will remain in the water system after flushing. Any resident who experiences discolored water should contact the Water Division at 712-792-1000 so personnel can analyze and attempt to resolve the issue. The city-wide main flushing initiative is projected to conclude in early May.
