Iowa Fuel Report: Jan. 7, 2026

Fuel prices in the state continued to fall in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Jan. 7, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was down one cent to $2.37, compared to $2.85 per gallon this time last year. The national average for gas on Wednesday was down two cents to $2.82 per gallon. As for Iowa diesel prices, the average fell five cents on the week to $3.25 per gallon, compared to $3.29 a year ago. Local prices remain 29 cents below the $3.59 national average. At the Des Moines Terminal, E10 stood at $1.55, Unleaded 887 at $1.76, ULSD#2 at $1.93, ULSD#1 at $2.36, and E70 at $1.73. In heating fuels, propane and home heating oil were both down two cents to $1.56 and $2.79 per gallon, respectively. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were down 27 cents to $3.50 per MMBtu.
