Carroll County Sheriff Ken Pingrey is cautioning residents that emergency response times may be delayed beginning tonight (Tuesday) and continuing into tomorrow (Wednesday) morning due to potentially hazardous travel conditions forecast. The National Weather Service (NWS) says winds could gust to 60 mph, leading to possible whiteouts. Fortunately, the chance for snow in and around Carroll County is relatively low, but the high winds could easily pick up the snow that has already fallen over the last two weeks. Pingrey urges drivers to avoid traveling during this period if possible, as law enforcement, ambulances, and other first responders may be unable to respond to calls for aid. Pingrey says, “If you are out during this and become stranded or have an accident, there is a chance first responders won’t be able to get to you safely. Please err on the side of caution and wait for better conditions before traveling.” Updated Iowa road conditions are always available online at www.511ia.org.
