Staff at Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) are thanking the community for their overwhelming support of the rural hospital’s first Legacy Gala, which was hosted last month. The Nov. 14 event drew 165 attendees and helped the newly created MRHC Legacy Fund grow significantly in its first year. Since its launch in July, the fund has raised nearly $32,000 to support long-term local healthcare initiatives. Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jackie Blackwell says, “I am truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support at our first Legacy Gala. Seeing our community come together with such generosity and pride reminds me why MRHC’s mission matters so deeply.” MRHC extended special thanks to the presenting sponsors, Availa Bank, Carroll Control Systems, and Templeton Savings Bank, as well as to all individual volunteers and donors. Blackwell says, “The launch of our Legacy Fund ensures we can continue strengthening local healthcare, investing in our mission, and supporting our community for generations to come. This fund represents more than philanthropy; it represents a shared commitment to ensuring MRHC remains strong, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of those we serve.” The gala also included employee recognitions for Dr. Douglas McLaws, who recently received the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) Hospital Hero Award, and staff awards for Steph Brink, Shelli Barsby, Taylor Nelson, and Mikasia Jacobsen. Planned Legacy Fund initiatives include a Valentine’s Day auction in February 2026, a new scholarship program for aspiring healthcare professionals, and the MRHC Legacy Golf Tournament in June 2026.
