KNOW YOUR BALLOT: Tage Henkelman Runs In Carroll Ward 3

The Ward 3 Carroll City Council seat is one of several contested races on the local ballot in the coming Nov. 4 city/school elections, and it features Tage Henkelman as one of the candidates. Henkelman spent most of his life in the community, moving to Carroll with his family when he was just eight years old in 2004. Henkelman says he is personally invested in Carroll and wants to play a meaningful role in helping to decide its direction.

Henkelman adds that he has long been interested in local politics, and this will be his first time seeking public office. Henkelman says he is running on a three-point platform.

Transparency is the third piece. He says city government should be an open book, and the public deserves to know most, if not all, of what goes on behind the scenes. Henkelman credits Carroll for its history of low city taxes compared to its peers, but he is growing concerned that there has been no talk of lowering the city’s levy, as the recent increases to property assessments will soon be used to calculate property tax bills.

Henkelman says Carroll residents are rightfully proud of where they live because it is truly a wonderful community. However, he fears that current city spending will hinder future growth potential. He uses housing developments as an example. Henkelman says incentives are one thing, but city governments should not be acquiring land like property developers.

Henkelman is running against the current Ward 3 Councilman, Kyle Bauer. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from him and the other candidates running in the Nov. 4 city/school elections in upcoming newscasts and online at www.carrollbroadcasting.com.
