Gov. Reynolds Orders Flags To Half-Staff Tuesday For WWII Soldier Being Laid To Rest In Iowa

Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff tomorrow (Tuesday) to honor a World War II soldier being buried in Iowa. U.S Army Air Forces 2nd Lt. Blaine Wilcox from Pacific Junction was killed in action during a bombing mission over Germany in 1944. He was 26 years old at the time of his death. A graveside service will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) as he is laid to rest in the Glenwood Cemetery with full military honors at 2 p.m. His services are taking place 81 years to the day of his death. Flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the State Capitol Building, the flag displays in the Capitol Complex, along on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout Iowa. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
