Lake City Approves 28E Agreement With Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office For Law Enforcement Services

The Lake City City Council approves a 28E agreement with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office to assist with law enforcement services for the community. Due to the recent resignation of Police Chief Jason Gray, the city agency is no longer at capacity to serve Lake City. The council discussed a cooperation effort with County Sheriff Pat Riley to provide police protection and administrative services for Lake City. The 28E agreement was established and approved by the council during a special meeting on Wednesday, to have the county sheriff’s office assist the city when the police department is understaffed from here on out until a new chief and officers are hired. Lake City officials have agreed to pay the sheriff’s office $125 per day for administrative services conducted by Sheriff Riley, and $27 an hour for deputies to patrol the city. That rate can increase to $72.45 per hour if an off-duty deputy needs to step in and cover hours. This agreement goes into effect on July 5, 2025 and will remain in force until Jan 2, 2026 and will be renewed until a fully staffed police department is established.
