The Lake View City Council tabled a quote for three new cameras at the city’s dump but showed support for updating security footage there and other places around the community. At the last meeting, a quote was provided for three different cameras: one stationary, one with 25 times zoom, and an LPR camera that can identify license plates on all vehicles. Police Chief George Athan says they had a trial run with similar cameras out at the dump, and they were able to make few arrests and assist with a theft charge, which would not have happened with the old cameras that are there.
Athan says that by purchasing the new cameras, all security footage would be on the same software.
Athan says he would eventually like to install cameras similar to the ones in the quote at the parks and other local amenities around Lake View, but this can happen in stages rather than all at once. Council Member Jim Jensen showed favor and said he would like to see an additional quote for the pickleball courts, where Athan reports that recent incidents have occurred.
The council decided to table the quote to obtain more clarification on the prices of the specific cameras and to add security footage devices at the pickleball courts. An updated quote will be brought to the council at a future meeting for consideration.
