The listening area will have less than 36 hours of respite from wintry weather as another 6”-8” of snow is forecasted to fall beginning tonight (Thursday). Residents woke up with drifts over six feet tall in some cases on Wednesday, which led many businesses and schools in the area to close. After clearing their sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots, Iowans in the western part of the state are expected to be grabbing their shovels and firing up their snowblowers again on Friday. The National Weather Service predicts a mixture of rain and snow to begin around 6 p.m. Thursday and continue until around mid-morning on Friday. The most significant snowfall forecasted, about 6”-8”, is positioned on an approximately 40-mile oval with Carroll near its center. This area includes all of Carroll County, most of Sac and Calhoun counties, and portions of the contiguous counties. While the wind won’t be as much of a factor as earlier this week, officials are already warning that conditions could be treacherous for motorists on Friday morning and to plan accordingly.
