Students from Kuemper Catholic (KHS) and Carroll High Schools (CHS) traveled to Spencer this past weekend for the Iowa High School Speech Association’s (IHSSA) Large Group State Contest. Of the five teams from CHS that competed Saturday, two groups earned an “I” or “excellent” rating. Both were in the Group Improvisation category: Zetta Noble, Brooke Stangle, Claire Pudenz, and Amber Moritz; and Sarah Ryherd and Caitlyn Jacobs. KHS had five of their seven teams earn top marks, including: Ashlyn Lally, Karsyn Lampman, and Hailey Schenkelberg in Group Mime; Regan Garringer, Adalynn Pietig, Aliya Stork, and Meredith Sturm in Short Film; Sophie Christensen, Karsyn Lampman, Alese Lenz, Lauren Lenz, Louis Meyers, Logan Rial, Alivia Schenkelberg, and Laura Steinkamp in Musical Theatre; Regan Garringer, Adalyn Pietig, Simon Pietig, Haley Schenkelberg, Evan Streufert, and Meredith Sturm in Ensemble Acting; and Joeseph Masching, Gage Rolfes, and Joel Schultes in Group Improvisation. KHS’ Group Improv team was also chosen to receive All-State honors and will have the opportunity to perform at the Large-Group All-State Festival on Feb. 22 at Iowa State University in Ames.
