The Carroll County Board of Supervisors is proposing a pay freeze for themselves in Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 as the county continues to work through what is anticipated to be a tight budget. The supervisors directed elected officials and department heads to prepare their budgets with an expected 2.5 percent salary increase for staff. The same figure was used to calculate the board’s projected pay, but District 4 Supervisor Stephanie Hausman suggested the supervisors keep their compensation at FY25 levels.
The board quickly agreed with Hausman’s suggestion.
Supervisors in Carroll County are paid just over $37,000 per year. Their duties include overseeing county operations, budgetary decisions, policymaking, tax levies, and more. A combination of low property valuation growth and limitations on year-to-year municipal government budget increases from the Iowa Legislature is restricting Carroll County tax collections to only $210,000 more than in FY25. These restrictions are forcing city and county officials to search for ways to trim expenses from their budgets in most departments.
