The Carroll City Council meets tonight (Thursday) to begin the process of purchasing farmland west of the Carroll Municipal Golf Course for future housing development. The meeting follows a letter of understanding signed by Mayor Jerry Fleshner on Sept. 30 and the landowners Peter Simons, John Simons, and K.M.C. Farm LTD. The letter outlined plans to acquire approximately 100 acres, with the latest agreement covering a majority of the land. The city will consider offering to purchase 80 acres at a total price of $2,414,075, which comes out to a cost of $30,175.94 per acre. The remaining acres will be addressed in a future agreement. This was presumably the topic of discussion during the council’s Dec. 9 closed-session meeting. The Thursday, Dec. 12, meeting is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Carroll City Hall and is open to the public. A link to the agenda packet and YouTube livestream video is included below.
