A local business, Housby Mack of Carroll, was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense for their outstanding support of employees who are also military servicemen and women. On Friday, Jeff Dentlinger, the District 2 chair for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), presented the award to the company and the local branch manager, Kevin Wilson. The nomination was written by Kevin Nelson, who currently serves with the 134th Infantry Regiment of the Nebraska Army National Guard. Mandatory drill weekends, training missions, and deployments often pull guardsmen and reservists away from home and work. Nelson says Wilson and the Housby staff have been incredibly supportive whenever he is called away.

It can be challenging for a small operation such as the Carroll Housby branch, which has fewer than 10 employees, to adjust to a team member’s absence. Wilson says it is their privilege and responsibility to fill in any way they can.

Dentlinger presented Wilson and the Housby staff certificates and challenge coins on Friday in recognition of their support for Nelson’s military service. Federal law requires employers to ensure a servicemember has a job to return to when duty calls. ESGR was created in 1972 to help companies navigate and understand those responsibilities. Dentlinger, an Army veteran himself, says there is a growing effort among ESGR outreach personnel to recognize outstanding employers and help companies understand what is required of them.

Dentlinger encourages current guard members and reservists to nominate employers who have gone above and beyond to support their service. Learn more using the link included below.
