Join The Ronald McDonald House Charities In Carroll Next Weekend For ‘A Magical Day’

The Ronald McDonald House Charities invites residents from throughout the region to Carroll next weekend for “A Magical Day” to raise awareness about the organization’s often-overlooked services to children and families in their time of need. Several years ago, Noah and Meredith Dryden stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines when their daughter, Amelia, needed four weeks of treatment for an acute illness. Around a year later, their friends, Chris and Tera Petersen, found themselves in a similar situation when their son, Cal, needed to be treated for life-threatening pneumonia after his birth. Noah and Chris say the value of a place like the Ronald McDonald House doesn’t cross most people’s minds until a family is at a low point.

The Drydens spent nearly four weeks at the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines, while the Petersens were there for about a week. For some, the organization offers financial relief for families worried about how they could afford to stay in a hotel for a month or longer to be with their child during treatment. For others, it removes the stress of wondering what you’ll eat for dinner that night or figuring out where you’ll sleep or shower after rushing to a hospital. The organization is based in Des Moines, but Dryden says it is a much more local charity than people realize.

The Family Fun Festival begins at 2 p.m. on June 10 on 5th Street between Court and Clark Streets. The free event features a magician, inflatables, face painting, games, and more early in the afternoon. At 5 p.m., the Carroll County Cattlemen will grill dinner for the community with live music from 2½ Guitars beginning at 7 p.m. There will also be a live auction starting at 8 p.m. Dryden says their goal is to raise awareness about the Ronald McDonald House, but fundraising is also a possibility.

Petersen adds everybody has been supportive of the Ronald McDonald House Family Fun Festival from the onset of planning, including local businesses, individuals, the City of Carroll, and more. Dryden and Petersen ask families to take some time out of their schedules next weekend to have fun with the Ronald McDonald House Charities. More information, including ways to donate and the schedule for next weekend, is included below.
