Thursday Is Deadline To Register For Local American Legion’s Brushy Creek Honor Flight Golf Outing

The local American Legion’s annual golf outing to fundraise for the Brushy Creek Honor Flight is scheduled for this coming weekend, and there is still time for golfers to register. The honor flights started over a decade ago to send servicemen and women to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to the conflicts in which they served. Dick Meiners, the Dedham American Legion member who helps organize the tournament, says it is a special trip for vets who choose to go.

Meiners adds many of the World War II or Korean War veterans have already participated in one of the earlier flights or have passed on, and their focus is now shifting to the many Vietnam vets from around the area. Their goal is to send veterans to D.C., all expenses paid.

Registration is $120 per four-person team, and the deadline to enter is Thursday, June 1 by calling Meiners at 712-210-5857. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the Carroll Country Club with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Meiners stresses the outing is open to anybody, not just veterans.

Meiners says they have other ways to donate if golf isn’t your strong suit.

Again, the registration deadline is Thursday, June 1, and signup details and donation information are included below.
