National Police Week Ends Today. Take A Moment To Thank A Local Officer, Deputy, Or Trooper.

Today (Saturday) marks the final day of National Police Week, a time for Americans to take a moment out of their busy lives and thank the men and women who serve in their towns, counties, and states. Carroll Police Chief Brad Burke says law enforcement agencies in west-central Iowa are fortunate to have tremendous community support.

Generally speaking, west-central Iowa is a very low-crime area compared to the rest of the nation. Burke says several factors contribute to that result.

He adds another key component is the quality of people who live in the region. While nobody is happy when they get a seatbelt or speeding ticket, a general sense of mutual respect is the norm when interacting with law enforcement around the area. Burke says it is important to remember officers, deputies, and troopers are people, too.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 226 federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2022.
