Area Agencies Celebrate Dispatchers During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, more commonly known as Dispatchers Week, and local first-responder agencies are celebrating the men and women who are the first point of contact when an emergency arises. Carroll County Sheriff Ken Pingrey says it takes a special person to become a dispatcher.

Pingrey says emergency dispatchers undergo extensive training in handling a wide variety of challenges and, in some cases, assisting callers through life-threatening situations.

He adds law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical service personnel are fortunate to have tremendous support from area communities and residents. Pingrey says dispatchers deserve the same level of thanks.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week started Sunday, April 9 and runs through Saturday, April 15.
